Chowan Singers Concert at the Regional Workforce Development Center

Chowan Singers, the premier choral ensemble of Chowan University, will present a concert at Paul D. Camp Community College on Thursday. April 11, 2013 at 7:30 p.m.. Repertoire for the concert will include selections from the Renaissance to the present day, including contemporary anthems and spirituals. The choir has presented numerous concerts throughout North Carolina and the Mid-Atlantic Region. Additionally, Chowan Singers has performed in Israel, the Palestinian Territories, Egypt, France, Italy, and Ireland.
Chowan Singers is under the direction of Dr. Gregory Parker, Professor of Music and Chair of the Department of Music at Chowan University. Dr. Parker holds degrees from Samford University, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and the University of Missouri-Kansas City. In addition to his work as a choral conductor and church musician, Dr. Parker has performed extensively as a baritone soloist in operas, oratorios, and recitals. Paula Pressnell, Artist in Residence at Chowan, is the accompanist for the groups. Mrs. Pressnell is a cum laude graduate of Salem College, where she was a piano student of Clemens Sandresky. In addition to her work at Chowan, Mrs. Pressnell maintains a private piano studio and is the organist at Murfreesboro Baptist Church.
