More than 80 golfers played in the 9th Annual Paul D. Camp Community College Foundation Golf Tournament held recently at Sleepy Hole Golf Course in Suffolk. More than $20,000 was raised to aid in student scholarships, and staff and faculty needs.
The winners were:
Smithfield Packing Company team: Mike Merritt, Monty Kayes, Jim Powder and Jeff Bird, all of Smithfield.
Bland/Hart team: Dr. Rodney Bland and Will Hart, both of Franklin.
Beale team: John and Teresa Beale, and Charlie and Connie Corbitt, all of Franklin.
Bronco Federal Credit Union team: Mark Compton of Chesapeake, and David Lease, Sammy Belcher and Brian Hedgepeth, all of Franklin.
Boyce, Spady & Moore PLC team: John R. Boyce, Grier Ferguson and Frank Spady, all of Suffolk, and Ambler Hatchett of Chesapeake.
Karen Rye and David Lydick (Team 2): Dave Lydick, Anna Stewart, Harry Campbell and Merrill Curry, all of Virginia Beach.
Southampton Memorial Hospital team: Steve Ramey of Franklin, Neil Marks of Courtland, Miles Carr of Como, N.C., and Wynne Thomas of Drewryville.
Edward Jones (team 2): Matt Ward of Arlington, Brian Elms of Chesapeake, Rob Estes of Smithfield and Dan Zaruba of Gloucester
Suffolk Ruritan Club team: E.C. Harris, Larry Santure, Bob Stanley, and Conrad Hass, all of Suffolk, and Rick Hearn of Baltimore, Md.
After the event, prizes were awarded for Closest to Pin, which went to Brian Hedgepeth of Franklin, Phil Stewart of Virginia Beach, Dayton Crowder of Franklin and Ambler Hatchett of Chesapeake. The 50/50 Putting Contest was won by Mark Compton of Chesapeake.
Chairman Sandy Mann, Dr. Paul Wm. Conco, Kay Mann, Felicia Blow, Jeannette Belcher, Susan Francis, Jessie Hobbs and other PDCCC Foundation Board members served as golf committee members for the 2012 event. The 10th Annual PDCCC Foundation Golf Tournament will be held next year in Smithfield.
