~College exceeds its initial $3 million target~
(Franklin, VA) — Paul D. Camp Community College went well beyond its initial target of raising $3 million. A total of $7,089,935.46 was raised during the College’s first-ever Major Gifts Campaign, which began in August 2008. The campaign concluded in August 2013. Dr. Paul Wm. Conco, College President, and Larry Pope, President and CEO of Smithfield Foods, Inc., served as the chairs of the campaign.
A VICTORY celebration was Friday, Aug. 23, at the Regional Workforce Development Center in Franklin to thank donors to the campaign.
Felicia Blow, Vice President for Institutional Advancement and Secretary/Executive Director of the PDCCC Foundation and the Major Gifts Campaign Manager, said, “The primary goals of this campaign were to raise funds for high-need academic and workforce programs; student access and excellence; and instructional technology enhancements. We have achieved our goals and so much more… With funding through grants, foundation support, and direct donations, we’ve gone far in ensuring that the College meets the needs of current and future students as well as of Faculty and Staff.”
In addition to thanking donors, the victory celebration event acknowledged the work of former PDCCC President Dr. Douglas Boyce, who retired in 2010, and Dr. Patsy Joyner, who retired in 2012 after serving as Vice President for Institutional Advancement and Secretary/Executive Director of the PDCCC Foundation and the Major Gifts Campaign Manager. In addition, Dr. Boyce was honored with recognition as only the second President to named “President Emeritus” of Paul D. Camp Community College.
Dr. Conco said, “I often say that Paul D. Camp Community College is truly the community’s college. The success of the Major Gifts Campaign is a shining example of that description as our regional community has come together to support one shared goal: Creating our Future—not just the future of Paul D. Camp Community College, but the future of our students, our citizens and our entire community.”
The reception was also highlighted by a silent auction, to which local businesses and individuals donated items.
