Paul D. Camp Community College President Paul Wm. Conco congratulates Gloria Shearrin for being selected as the 2013-14 recipient of the 40/7 Society Scholarship.
In addition to roughly 50 other scholars, Gloria Shearrin of Suffolk has been selected to receive the 40/7 Society Scholarship from Paul D. Camp Community College.
Shearrin, in her fourth semester at the Hobbs Suffolk Campus of PDCCC, is studying to earn Career Studies Certificates for Medical Office Billing Clerk and Medical Office Specialist.
“Receiving this scholarship has lightened my financial burden, allowing me to focus more on the most important aspect of school—learning,” she said.
After earning an Associate degree in Medical Office Administration, she plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree and work as a professional medical manager.
The 40/7 Society Scholarship was created in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the College and the inauguration of its seventh president. Community members and local businesses invested $407 each to create an endowed scholarship for a non-traditional student.
In addition, a recipient must have a financial need and be in good academic standing at the College.
“This generosity has inspired me to help others and give back to the community,” she said. “I hope one day I am able to help students achieve their goals just as I have been helped.”
