Paul D. Camp Community College’s Literary Club has engaged the renowned poet and author Nathan Richardson to present several of his works during an event set to celebrate Black History Month.
The performance will be held Tuesday, Feb. 12, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in room 124 on the Hobbs Suffolk Campus.
Richardson, a Portsmouth resident and Suffolk native, is an accomplished performance poet and published author who also founded Spiritual Concepts Publishing. He is organizer and host of the Poetry, Prose & Pizza open “mic” series and head coach of the Hampton Roads Youth Poets.
He has numerous awards and accolades. Among them are the following:
- 2012 National Arts & Humanities Youth Program Award
- 2012 Move Maker Award.
- Commissioned by the Chrysler Museum of Art and the Delaware Museum of Art to collaborate on national touring events.
His affiliations include the Suffolk Art League; the Poetry Society of Virginia (lifetime member); Young Audiences of Virginia; and the Christopher Newport University Writer’s Conference (advisory council member).
Richardson is also moderator of the PDCCC Literary Club’s Literary Festival, held annually in spring on the Hobbs Suffolk Campus.
