Pinks ribbons and literature were distributed to students and staff on Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012 as part of an activity hosted by the Office of Student Activities and Suffolk Chapter of the Links, Inc., to raise awareness about breast cancer.
Suffolk Links member Dr. Charlene Britt, above, participated on the Hobbs Suffolk Campus during the morning activity period. Ms. Tuwanna Okafor, president of the Virginia Beach Breast Cancer Foundation and PDCCC graduate, participated during the evening session.
“We are pleased with the number of the students and staff who participated in Pink Out Day,” said Student Activities Coordinator MeChelle Blunt. “Over 90 people visited the informational tables.”
SGA President KeBrina Joyner, Vice President Anthony Holloway, Phi Theta Kappa President Ida Thompson, and Science Club and FUEL Club member Angelita Bease greeted guests and assisted in facilitating the event.
“Faculty member Carol Wright, and staff members Deloris Edwards and Karen Jenkins were instrumental in making our efforts a success as well,” Blunt said. She also extended a special thanks to Anne Williams of Southampton Memorial Hospital for providing supplementary literature and Suffolk Chapter of the Links, Inc. “We greatly appreciate community stakeholders assisting us in strengthening our efforts to provide wholesome opportunities for our students,” she said.
