Is financial aid available?
At this time, there is no financial aid or needs-based scholarships available for Kids College. However, we do have an Early Bird incentive that will help defray the costs for parents who register by the Early Bird deadline. We also keep our prices as low as possible to assist all students to participate.
How will my child travel to Kids College?
Parents are responsible for getting students to the location of their class. Field trips will leave from either the Franklin or Smithfield location. We do have a very few classes where parents must deliver to the location; those will be indicated in our catalog.
What time do I drop off/pick up my child?
The times for each class period are listed in our Kids College catalog. Parents are encouraged to drop off their children at the check-in desk at each location. Please arrive no earlier than 15 minutes prior to the beginning of class. You must pick up your child within 15 minutes of the end of class (i.e., if class ends at 12:30p, you will need to pick him/her up no later than 12:45p).
What is your pickup policy?
Anyone picking up your child (including parents) will need to provide a driver’s license as proof of identity each time you or an authorized person pick up your child.
- Your child’s instructor/instructional assistant will only release your child to the individuals listed on your Pick Up Form
- You (or your authorized designee) will be required to sign your child out with the instructor/instructional assistant.
- You may give permission for your child to leave his/her assigned Kids College classroom unattended ONLY IF YOU SIGN THE PARENT RELEASE FORM found later in this packet. This form is optional, but if we do not have this on file for your child, they will not be released unattended.
What if I’m running late and won’t be able to pick up my child on time?
Parents are expected to make arrangements to pick up their child on time following each class. But we understand that sometimes things happen that are out of your control. If an emergency keeps you from reaching Kids College on time, please call us at 757.569.6058 or 757.569.6700 to alert us of your situation.
Does the camp provide snacks?
Yes. We will provide healthy, peanut-free snacks and juices/water for morning sessions and afternoon sessions.
Is lunch provided?
Lunch is not provided. If the class lasts over the lunch hour, students are expected to bring their own lunches. Please send items that don’t need refrigeration. We do have students who participate with us with severe peanut allergies. If any of those students are in a class where lunch is brought from home, we will contact the parents of all the children in the class and give guidance if necessary on what can come into the classroom in student lunchboxes.
What is the cost for the Field Trip?
The cost is included in the class fee; see catalog for individual class fees
Do your vans have seat belts?
Yes, and students are required to wear them at all times while the vehicle is moving.
Who is driving the field trips?
Our drivers are either PDCCC employees or Kids College volunteers. All our drivers have had background and DMV checks to assure their safe driving records. Parents are welcome to transport their children to and from field trip locations if they would prefer. Please arrange that with Kids College staff ahead of time so that we can plan accordingly.
Do I need to pre-register my child, or can I do that the first day of classes?
We strongly recommend registering early; classes fill quickly; plus, instructors may not have enough supplies for students who sign up at the last minute.
May I register my child now and pay later?
All registrations are on a first-paid, first-enrolled basis. We must receive payment in full before we can register your child for a class.
The class my child wants is full. Do you keep a waiting list?
As classes fill, we ask parents if they would like to be placed on a waiting list. If an opening occurs – or we are able to add another class section – you will be contacted. (Please be ready to pay in full by credit or debit card as soon as you are notified of an opening. Waiting list openings are filled on a first-paid, first-enrolled basis.)
My child is one year younger/older than the listed grades for the class. Can he/she still attend?
The decision to let a child participate who is younger or older than the listed grade levels is contingent upon permission from both the class instructor and the program coordinator.
Do you ever cancel classes?
We make every effort to hold all classes as scheduled. In the rare event a course doesn’t meet minimum enrollment, we will contact you at least one week prior to the start date to select an alternate placement or request a refund.
