HESI Entrance Exam Fall 2019/Spring 2020 Application Cycle.

All students applying for admission to the Registered Nursing Program, January or May Admission Advanced Placement Program, and Practical Nursing Certificate Program must take the HESI Entrance Exam for the 2019/20 Academic Year;

Registered Nursing and Advanced Placement January and May Admission Applicants. Applicants: scoring at least 80% or above: English Composite: which includes: Reading Comprehension and Grammar; 65% or above: Science Composite: which includes: Biology, Chemistry and Anatomy and Physiology and 70% or above in Math.

Practical Nursing Applicants: scoring at least a 76% or above in English Composite Category: which includes: Reading Comprehension and Grammar; 68% or above in Math Category and 60% or above in the Science Composite Category: which includes: Biology, Chemistry and Anatomy and Physiology.

Students are only allowed to take any of the Nursing Entrance Exams: HESI, ATI TEAS or Kaplan once a semester for a total of twice per application cycle: HESI Entrance Exam (offered at Camp Community College).

Exam dates must be at least 6 weeks apart. The Hesi Entrance exam at Camp Community College will be offered according to the schedule below.

Attention: The Advanced Placement January Admission applicants will be allowed to take the HESI entrance exam 2ce within the Fall semester, and the exam dates must be 6 weeks apart. The Advanced Placement January admission applicants will have to take the HESI Entrance Exam by Friday, November 8th.

HESI exam fee is $56.00 per exam; payable to the campus bookstore. If a student needs to retest; then the highest score will be accepted.

Fall 2019/Version I exam; if you purchase the VERSION 1 exam in the Fall; then you HAVE to test in the Fall.

Spring 2020/Version II exam; if you purchase the Version II exam in the Spring; then you HAVE to test in the Spring.

Applicants are strongly encouraged to take the HESI Entrance Exam in the Fall.

Study materials:
HESI Admission Assessment Exam Review Book, 4/e ; ISBN 978-0-323-35378-6 is optional and can be purchased at the campus bookstore for (~$40.00) or you can elect to purchase the book elsewhere; and PDCCC’s library will have a copy of this study guide for your review (but you cannot check this book out of the library). Please take the time necessary to review the study material.

There is an interactive site for the HESI Entrance Exam, there is a $29 fee associated with this interactive site/resource. Students have the opportunity to take a paid $29 course and receive further assistance as well as an option for a 900 question practice test. The test is graded immediately!

Upon arriving at the testing site, you will be asked to provide a government issued picture identification, e.g. a driver’s license, or passport. No calculators, cell phones or electronic devices are permitted in the testing center; DO NOT BRING ANY ELECTRONIC DEVICES INTO THE TESTING CENTER; VIOLATERS WILL BE INSTRUCTED TO LEAVE. Scratch paper and pencils will be provided.

Your final scoring report will be accessible within 24-48 hours after you finish; and will be in PDF format. To access the report post exam, you will need to login to your Evolve account (http://evolve.elsevier.com) and go to your Student Access link for HESI where the report will be displayed once available.

Please contact the Nursing Administrative Assistant cgriffin@pdc.edu to schedule a date and time to take the HESI exam and remember to provide: your name, Student ID number, valid phone number, and a copy of your receipt from the bookstore as proof of purchase. Your testing date will not be confirmed without a receipt and you will not be allowed to test without your receipt.

The HESI Entrance Exam consists of 5 sections with a total of 284 questions. The total testing time is up to 265 minutes. (~ 4.5 hours).

ENGLISH (2 components)
Reading Comprehension – 55 questions; time allotted – 60 minutes.
Grammar – 55 questions; time allotted 50 minutes

MATH – 55 questions; time allotted- 50 minutes.
The test measures the student’s ability to apply mathematical principles in the following areas:
SCIENCE – (3 components)
Biology – 30 questions; time allotted 25 minutes
Chemistry – 30 questions; time allotted 25 minutes
Anatomy and Physiology – 30 questions; time allotted 25 minutes

Learner Profile (2 Components)
Learner Style – 14 questions; time allotted 15 minutes
Personality Profile – 15 questions; time allotted 15 minutes

(Note the deadline for January Admission Advanced Placement HESI Entrance Exam is November 8th, May Admission Advanced Placement HESI Entrance Exam is Friday, February 7, 2020) and the deadline for PN and RN program applicants the last Friday in April 2020).

After two times the student will not be allowed to take the HESI entrance exam, or any other Nursing Entrance Exam until the following Fall semester.
