Kaplan Test

All students applying for admission to the Registered Nursing Program must take the Kaplan Entrance Exam scoring at 45th percentile in each of four content areas. Students applying for admission to the Practical Nursing Program must score 45th percentile in each of the four content areas on the Kaplan Entrance Exam. Students are only allowed to take the Kaplan Test once a semester a total of twice per student. This test is only offered to Paul D Camp students. The test will be offered according to the attached schedule.

In addition, the Paul D. Camp bookstore sells this same book (about $32). However, any book that helps you prepare for an RN/PN preadmissions test should be helpful. There are many on the market, and you may also find some in local libraries, as well as Paul D. Camp library. Please take the time necessary to review the study material.

Upon arriving at the testing site, you will be asked to provide a government issued picture identification, e.g. a driver’s license, or passport. No calculators, cell phones or electronic devices are permitted in the testing center; DO NOT BRING ANY ELECTRONIC DEVICES INTO THE TESTING CENTER; VIOLATERS WILL BE INSTRUCTED TO LEAVE. Scratch paper and pencils will be provided.

The test is scored immediately upon completion. Please print out 2 copies of your results; maintain a copy for your records and submit the other copy of your Kaplan test scores as part of the required complete application packet that you will hand deliver to the Administrative Assistant on/before Friday, February 23, 2018 application deadline for ADN and PN programs; and the deadline for the Advanced Placement Program (formerly LPN-RN Bridge Program) is November 17, 2017.

The Admissions Test consists of 5 sections with a total of 91 questions. The total testing time is up to 165 minutes.

READING– 22 questions; time allotted- 45 minutes. Students read four passages and answer questions that measure the essential skills required for reading:

  • Determining the logic of a passage
  • Comprehending details
  • Drawing basic inferences
  • Identifying the purpose of a passage

MATH– 28 questions; time allotted- 45 minutes. The test measures the student’s ability to apply mathematical principles in the following areas:

  • Conversions
  • Operations
  • Ratios
  • Word Problems

WRITING– 21 questions; time allotted- 45 minutes. Students read nine passages and answer questions that measure the essential skills required for writing:

  • Assessing passage development
  • Assessing paragraph logic
  • Assessing mechanics of writing

SCIENCE– 20 questions; time allotted- 30 minutes. The test measures the student’s knowledge of physiology in the following areas:

  • Cardiovascular system
  • Electrolytes
  • Gastrointestinal system
  • Immune system
  • Neurology
  • Renal system
  • Hematological system
  • Homeostasis
  • Respiratory system
  • Sensory system

Franklin Campus: Test begins promptly @ 1:00 pm; no late comers will be allowed to test; testers are asked to arrive no later than 12:30 pm the day of their scheduled test. Suffolk Campus: Test begins promptly at 9:00am; no late comers will be allowed to test; testers are asked to arrive no later than 8:30am.

PN and RN Testers are allowed to take the Kaplan Entrance Exam once in the Fall semester and once in the Spring semester; for a total of two times per application period. After two times the student will not be allowed to take this exam till the following Fall semester.

Advanced Placement (formerly LPN to RN Bridge) Testers will be allowed to take the Kaplan Entrance Exam 2 x during the application period: September 1, 2017 – November 10, 2017; if a tester needs to retake their Kaplan Entrance Exam; the test dates MUST be 6 weeks apart. *Kaplan Testers will only be allowed to reschedule their Kaplan Entrance Exam 1 time per semester; the Nursing Department understands that ‘life happens’; however, in order to accommodate all testers, there will be a limit to the number of times a tester can call to reschedule.
