Program: General Studies (699)
Award: Associate of Arts and Sciences (transfer degree)

Program Purpose:
This program is designed for students who plan to subsequently enroll in a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree program at a four-year college or university.  Students are encouraged to complete the AA&S degree before transferring.  Some Virginia colleges and universities exclude General Studies graduates from participating in guaranteed admission programs.

Because certain majors have specialized requirements, students should become familiar with the particular requirements of the college or university to which they intend to transfer, and discuss these requirements with their advisors in order to select the correct courses at Camp Community College.  Electives should be chosen carefully to meet requirements of the transfer institution.  The responsibility for proper course selection rests with the student.

What will I learn?
Students in this program will develop foundational knowledge and skills for civic engagement, critical thinking, professional readiness, quantitative literacy, scientific literacy, and written communication.

How long will I need to be in college?
A college-ready student attending Camp full-time can complete this associate degree in two years.

Where do Camp students who complete this degree transfer?
Over the last five years, Camp General Studies graduates have transferred to:

  • Chowan University,
  • Christopher Newport University,
